August update

Heyyy you all.. it’s been a while.. and abit overdue for an update! Thanks for all you who have reached out the past month..

Where to begin it’s so hard to believe that it’s already August and that means that winter is fast on its way here! It has definitely been getting chillier..  the plan at this point is to be here till the end of September so I’m assuming I’ll be seeing some snow before I leave! The summer has gone so fast in some ways but in others so slow! Work has been super slow and even the volunteers say it’s been an unusually slow summer, last wk we only had 5 calls the entire week and I was on 3 of them with only 1 transport… so it’s hard to not get bored, but we have some projects we can work on when we’re not running calls! I miss not being busier tho but I guess that’s EMS!

We’ve had some interesting calls for sure and am definitely getting good experiences! A few weeks ago we had a call to a fairly common trail, we had to hike in about a mile with our gear to a patient who had a syncope episode! Due to her condition we had to carry her out which the park rangers have this scope stretcher with one wheel that we use to carry her out! Thankfully her condition was not severe but we did transport!

We had a rafting accident that ended up with one patient who drowned and went into cardiac arrest, that was a hard one since they were up river and it was to dangerous for us to go up in a raft upstream or to fly up because of the canyon it was in so they ended up bringing the patient to us with the raft, there was an emt on the raft who was doing cpr but due to the down time and time it took for them to get her to us we called it pretty soon.

Strokes are hard since we have a 2 hour transport and even if we consider flight we often time have a to large of time window to get them to the hospital in a timely manner.

On my off weeks I still enjoy just driving thru the park or the mountains or going on hikes! Surprisingly enough I’m a not yet tired of the scenery here 😂 I’ve met a lot of people from the community or people that are here for the summer so I enjoy spreading time with them! There’s a place called the pit that is a coffee shop and an outdoor patio where people often hang out, play games, have open mic or dance parties so that’s a lot of fun! The pit is a part of ywam Denali and there’s currently a team here from all over the world. Theres a family from Switzerland who it’s fun to talk dutch to and we try to figure out what each other is saying!!

I’ve had a few people ask if I’m home sick, and I would say I miss the people more than anything, I also miss new holland EMS, I try not to compare but I miss the people I worked with and the community, also the environment here definitely has its challenges but I’m starting to see them as character building😂 we had alot of people quit early in the season I think last we lost the 4th medic so that often leaves us short staffed.. anyway I’ll try to add photos if I can but the service and wifi have been terrible that past few weeks😬

Blessings to you and I hope you all are well!!
