Day 1..
Saturday, April 20th, 2024, we left Lancaster at 6:20 am and drove to Canmore, Canada, covering about 2,354 miles with a duration of about 35 hours. The scenery was rather boring, especially once we reached Illinois.
We arrived at the Canada border around 0525 GMT6.
We only waited for about 10 minutes and they let us through without any issues. They didn’t ask to search the car or anything, so we continued on our way!
Canada was very flat, brown, and boring, with not many people around. After about 7 hours of driving from the border, we reached Calgary, and finally started seeing the mountain ranges in the horizon. It was stunning. We then drove to Canmore, and the mountains were truly breathtaking.
Upon reaching our Airbnb, we relaxed for a bit, then went out to get food and coffee. We strolled around town for a while. We were all quite tired from the long drive, and it felt really good to finally get a good night's rest.
Day 3
Monday, April 2nd, 2024
Slept in until about 8:30, had breakfast at a place called the Grande Kitchen and Bar, the food was amazing. Got coffee at Eclipse and then headed for Banff. Oh my word, the mountains were absolutely insane. My mind was blown; I've never seen anything like it. (If you haven’t been there yet, Banff should definitely be on your bucket list!) Stopped at Bow Falls and hiked a bit, visited Two Jack Lake, Barrier Lake, and Lake Minnewanka. Drove through British Columbia, which was absolutely stunning. Stopped at Numa Falls; those were beautiful. Walked around the town of Banff. Ate at an Indian restaurant called Zyka; it was amazing, and our server was from Nova Scotia!
Next, we went to Cascade of Time Gardens, but there wasn’t much to see because of it being winter. However, the castle was pretty.
Surprise Corner was a lookout where you could see Fairmont Banff Springs, which is a hotel that looks like a castle. It is beautiful and makes me wonder why they don’t make buildings like that anymore.
Then, we went up a windy mountain road to Mount Norquay Lookout, where we saw about 20 mountain goats just chilling on the mountain. The view was absolutely stunning, and the goats didn’t mind us hanging out with them. We stayed there for a while and enjoyed the view, then went to Vermilion Lakes to watch the sunset. We could only see the reflection on the other mountains, but it was still pretty. There is so much to see here; my heart is happy.
